Re: Forum software updated

There's a list of the changes in phpBB 3.3.0 here One unfortunate change is that it's no longer possible for an admin (or anybody) to backup the forum directly to their own PC. This change was apparently instituted on the grounds of 'security' but it places more reliance on the hosting service than...

Re: Forum software updated

Can I remind everybody that it's possible to configure the forum to send an email notification whenever a new message is posted. Unfortunately there isn't one 'global' setting, you have to do it for each individual sub-forum category (of which there are seventeen in all) but it only takes a short ti...

we have currently lost the forum's logo; I will try to work out how to reinstate it
I think the logo has been successfully reinstated. There's a list of the changes in phpBB 3.3.0 here but it's not exactly light reading!

Forum software updated

As part of the recovery process the forum software has been updated from phpBB version 3.2.2 to 3.3.0. It may take a little while for this change to 'bed in' and you may notice some anomalies (for example we have currently lost the forum's logo; I will try to work out how to reinstate it). If you no...

Me too. Why should I even bother to remain a member of this forum for the next couple of weeks? I'm sick of it.

Re: COMPLEX

i just tried to contribute, imho: constructively, by proposing a possible way out It's not clear to me what you were "proposing". BBC BASIC is over 37 years old, and the core language hasn't changed significantly for decades; even the extensions to the language that I have added (none of which were...

Re: COMPLEX

I said : "seriously, somehow", didn't I ? But you posted to a BBC BASIC forum, and the answer I gave is the most "serious" one relevant to BBC BASIC that I know of. You will be pleased to learn that my membership of this forum expires in about two weeks time, after which you will not be troubled by...

Re: COMPLEX

In order to talk, somehow seriously, about mathematics in a computer language, we need to have access to data of type COMPLEX, at least. I always use a structure for this: DIM COMPLEX{r,i} Then to declare COMPLEX 'variables' one can do: DIM a{} = COMPLEX{}, b{} = COMPLEX{} Assignments can be done d...

Re: The power of GPU shaders

When time permits, I will have a go at 'porting' some other shaders over at ShaderToy, sharing the results here (if I'm successful). With the framework in place I'm hoping it will be relatively easy to port others (although I don't know how to do the ones that use multiple stages with an intermedia...

Re: The power of GPU shaders

Once I'd found the texture the Clouds demo posed no particular problems, except that it seems to be even more demanding on the GPU than the Seascape! Unusually, I found that trying to record the output - for uploading to YouTube - reduced the frame rate and I ended up having to do it on a faster PC....
