Maizie Bones (new game)

Post by David Williams » Mon 15 Oct 2018, 16:28

I recently submitted my game 'Maizie Bones' to the latest code-a-game contest at SyntaxBomb:

https://www.syntaxbomb.com/index.php/to ... .msg19990/

Here's a YouTube video in which I play the game in its entirety:

Heheh, I like your nickname "BasicBoy".
The graphics and graphical effects in this game are really cool and impressive.

Thanks. The whole thing was done and dusted (pretty much) in 6 weeks flat.

Libraries used in this game:

GFXLIB2 (naturally!)
D3DLIB* (for the 'Blue Monster Hunter' minigame -- see note below)
BOX2DLIB (for the 'Marble Maze' minigame)
SORTLIB (for the 'Amazeballs'** minigame)
WINLIB5 (for 'Blue Monster Hunter' in order to create a 'static box')

* A section of this library was translated (by me) into assembler language for speed purposes
** https://www.urbandictionary.com/define. ... Amazeballs

I have updated the 'BB4W Games' website to include the new Maizie Bones game:

http://www.proggies.uk/

Direct link to Maizie Bones (extract from ZIp folder before running):
http://www.proggies.uk/progs/zip/maiziebones.zip

YouTube video:

If someone could post a link for the updated BB4W Games website and/or the direct download link over on the BBC BASIC Groups.io site then I would appreciate it (I'm not a member so I can't). I'm a little bit surprised that nobody's already done that, to be honest. :)

I thought it would be interesting (for me!) to find out how many times 'Maizie Bones' has been downloaded so far, so I downloaded the log file for my website (hosted by Tsohost) which covers the month of October (so far), and amazingly maiziebones.zip has been downloaded an astonishing... 5 times. No, that doesn't sound right to me either.

Looks like I'll be contacting my web hosting company.

Thanks, Michael. I think the next contest at SyntaxBomb is going to start sooner than I expected. Perhaps you would be interested in giving it a go?

Um... well for next Halloween I could start on a major project.. I doubt I will have the skill (or willpower) to beat anyone by the next deadline, but by next Halloween I think I could have a game ready that is worthy of praise... Seeing as how when late fall comes, I spend more time on computer.

Ill start on it right away and I will see.
